Thomas E. Snyder has been practicing law for over 40 years. As an experienced commercial, transactional, corporate and real estate attorney, he regularly gets involved with commercial litigation, determining causes of action and litigation strategies. Bio

  • Business Law: Mr. Snyder in intimately familiar with all forms of business organizations, including corporations, limited liability companies, general and limited partnerships, joint ventures and sole proprietorships. Mr. Snyder has drafted and negotiated all kinds of agreements related to these entities, including Shareholder Agreements, Operating Agreements, General and Limited Partnership Agreements, Joint Venture Agreements, Management Agreements, Employment Agreements and other related documents. To become an effective attorney and counselor at law, Mr. Snyder becomes totally knowledgeable about his clients’ businesses.
  • Merges & Acquisitions: The acquisition or sale of a business typically involves all aspects of the business being acquired or sold. These issues can be very complex and typically involve the capital structure, employees, intellectual property, contracts, pending litigation, indemnity, allocation of liabilities and taxation issues among others. A merger and acquisition also can involve issues involving securities law issues, anti-trust, regulatory, professional corporation, government contractor and other issues. Mr. Snyder has experience in all of these matters, and other ones as well.
  •  Commercial Real Estate: Mr. Snyder has handled a vast variety of commercial real estate transactions, from sales, purchases, financing, subdivision, development, formation of condominiums, leasing of all different categories of commercial real estate. These include industrial, retail, office, multi-family, hospitality and natural resource extraction, among others. Further, Mr. Snyder has experience addressing issues ancillary to commercial real estate, including easements, covenants, wetlands, drainage, title issues, zoning concerns, like-kind exchanges and related taxation issues.
  • Business Disputes:Disputes between owners of businesses, unfortunately occur, and require an experienced and wise counselor to address the concerns and find solutions. Mr. Snyder always endeavors to resolve any dispute without resorting to litigation, if possible. If a matter requires litigation, Mr. Snyder will assemble a team to address legal issues in a strategic manner to attempt cost effectively address the problem to give a client the result they desire. Mr. Snyder has an excellent track record in handling complex legal disputes.
  • Estate Planning:Mr. Snyder assists clients in planning their estates, including drafting Wills, Trusts and other related documents.

Community involvement

  • Mr. Snyder was an initial founder of the Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (“HRACRE”), served as its third President and currently serves on its Board of Directors and on its Presidents Counsel.
  • Mr. Snyder is presently a member of the Board of Directors of Samaritan House, which addresses the needs of victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.

  • Mr. Snyder was the former Vice-Chairman of the Samaritan House Foundation.
  • Mr. Snyder is presently a member of the Board of Directors of Ohef Sholom Temple, and formerly served on its Executive Committee as its Secretary.
  • Mr. Snyder was formerly a member of the Virginia Venture Capital Forum, Central Business District Association of Virginia Beach, on the Board of Directors of Virginia Beach Vision, Sertoma Club, Hampton Roads Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (“NAIOP”) and was the founder of two charitable golf tournaments.

  • Mr. Snyder earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University (B.A. 1972) and his law degree from the University of Richmond (JD 1978), where he was in the top 15% of his class, and served on the University of Richmond Law Review.
  • Mr. Snyder’s legal and ethical ability are rated AV by Martindale Hubbell; he is listed in Best Lawyers in America in business law; he is currently listed as a “Top Lawyer of Coastal Virginia” in mergers and acquisitions category by Coastal Virginia and CoVa Biz magazines (2023-2024) and has been listed in Virginia Legal Elite by Virginia Business Magazine in real estate law.
  • Mr. Snyder has taught continuing legal education courses of IRS §1031 like-kind exchanges; the private placement of securities; taxation of partnerships; family partnerships and limited liability companies; and issues related to franchising.
  • Mr. Snyder is a member of various local and State Bar Associations, and is qualified and admitted to practice in all State, local and Federal courts.
  • Mr. Snyder practiced law for 37 years at Williams Mullen, the third largest firm in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in their corporate and real estate departments, before joining Inman & Strickler, PLC
